The perfect turkey and best stuffing for a Thanksgiving feast!
Time: 4 hours (ish)
Serves: 8
Ingredients:
- 1 turkey
For the stuffing:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- 8 slices of fresh bread, coarsely cubed
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1 teaspoon ground sage
- 1 cup dried cranberries
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
Directions:
- Melt the butter in a pan. Saute onions and celery until tender. Combine remaining ingredients with onions and celery. Either stuff the turkey or place in a large casserole dish and bake covered for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
- To roast the turkey, rinse and remove the giblets and neck.
- Place stuffing in cavity if not cooking separately.
- Seal up the cavity with tin foil or small skewers.
- Place turkey, breast side up, in a shallow roasting pan. Rub generously with butter. Tie wings and legs down so that it look like the shape of a football. Do not cover.
- Place on the lower rack of an oven preheated to 450 degrees. Cook at this temperature for 30 minutes.
- Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue cooking until internal temperature on meat thermometer is 180 degrees (approximately 3 hours). Let the turkey sit for 30 minutes before carving.
